Fresh from his success with his three recordings in which he teamed with shakuhachi master Riley Lee; and multiple solo performances at Milton Lau's Slack Key Festival, highly regarded guitarist Jeff Peterson is releasing his first solo CD, "Kahealani." The Maui-born artist cut his chops with the paniolo of Haleakala Ranch before moving on to study with slack key luminary Ozzie Kotani and well-known Classical and Jazz guitarists. A prolific writer, Jeff's compositions for guitar and guitar ensembles have been performed both here and abroad. Equally comfortable playing for a noted opera singer or a lawn-full of ki ho`alu enthusiasts, Jeff's music is varied. A fan of his music says it "conjures up images of breathtaking scenes and evokes emotions ranging from contemplative to playful, from introspective to jubilant." Jeff's unique interpretations and intricate guitar stylings breathe new life into familiar Hawaiian songs and bring depth and beauty to his original compositions. Haleakala

NEW CD RELEASE ![]() Brain Child Andy Bumatai Honolulu, Hawai`i, December 2003... In 1979 the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts created a comedy category. The Hoku Award for Most Promising Artist was presented to a young new comedian named Andy Bumatai for his debut recording "Hawaii's First Stand Up Comic." Andy went on to become one of Hawaii's most respected comic talents. His body of work includes starring roles in national television shows, four movies and numerous local television productions and recordings. Andy is a writer, a teacher, and a driving force in the promotion of a new wave of comics emerging in the Islands today. Andy's first love - and the foundation of his career drive - is Stand Up Comedy. His latest CD "Brain Child" accurately represents this love and showcases not only Andy's multi-talented approach, but more importantly, his astute observational comedy. Andy wrote, performed, and edited the material. He produced and engineered the recording. He even designed the cover art. Knowing this, we think the CD's name is quite a fitting moniker! It seems members of the Academy knew what they were doing 24 years ago. Andy's certainly fulfilled that promise!

For many of those tourists, this was the only music they connected with he islands. What was a hit with visitors then, is still preferred by many. After all, the music is lovely, the instrumentation distinctly Hawaiian, and the primarily English lyrics understood by most.
