He Aloha No `O Honolulu
Kahauanu Lake Trio

Honolulu, Hawai`i, December 2003... Kahauanu Lake, past recipient of the Hawai`i Academy of recording Arts' Lifetime Achievement Award, is soon to be inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.  A constant figure on the Hawaiian music scene, he is a musician, entertainer, composer, recording artist, historian and leader (1955-1984) of the Kahauanu Lake Trio.  Respected by his peers and revered by a younger generation, "Uncle K," with his sophisticated style of music was a front-runner in Hawaiian music during the Statehood Years (50s and 60s) and a forefather of the Hawaiian Renaissance (70s and 80s).  Today the Trio's music remains as an inspirational conduit to young artists striving for excellence in the arts of Hawaiian dance and music.

The classical music of the hula hu`i (interpretive hula) is documented on this recording:  supplemented by personal remarks from kumu hula Michael Pili Pang and updated liner notes by Jean Sullivan, including Hawaiian lyrics and English translations.
